Day Ten

SMS JOT

We do not have a will.  Do you?  I know that we need one but it always gets pushed to the side.  What brings your "no will state" to mind?  For me, it is attending funerals, having a friend of a friend die or be seriously hurt.  Does anyone know how to go about having a will done?

I do not have a will, mostly because of procrastination, but have sought information on the topic. Most people I associate with know what my desires would be if I were to pass, but I really do need to put it down on paper. Two ways of having a will done are through an attorney or a website like Legal Zoom. I think the most important reason to have a will is in regards to children, if something were to happen to you and your husband unless you want the "system" to decide where, when, how your children will be placed it's important for you to outline where your children should go, or your desires for them. If you have any financial assets you would also want to allocate how they would be divided. You might want one child to get your wedding rings, and another to get this or that. To take it a step further you may want to give instructions as to whether you want to live on a ventilator or if you want the "plug pulled" as well as whether you want to be buried or cremated. But at the minimum I think it is very important to have our wishes specified where our children are concerned. Unfortunately people leave there houses every day and never come home because of tragedy.

We don't have a will either...haven't decided whether it's wise or not. I haven't found much evidence for the need of wills in Scripture...and as for assets, there's really not much there. LOL

We do have a will. We got ours after our second child was born. I felt guilty for not doing it sooner. We had ours done at the lawyer's. Quick and easy, if not so cheap. I consider it an important investment for the future of children... the same reason we have life insurance. We even had our will amended once to change guardianship as things changed.

I recommend doing it. Stop the procrastinating and get it done! It definitely provides a certain peace of mind knowing that you are taking care of the future for your kids, whether you can be there or not.
