Following the lead of my fellow 1 YR 2 blogging buddies (Jennifer @ The Year of Living Obsessively and Marie @ One Year to an Organized Life), I thought I'd post some answers to the questions in Regina Leeds book. DH and I answered them together one afternoon while he was sorting and purging some of his clothes. We did a lot of purging and sorting and thinking when we moved up into the loft about a week and a half ago.
1. Childhood sleeping arrangements: I am the oldest of 4 and the only girl. Most of the time I had my own room. I liked it for the most part, but I also liked when for a few months I shared space with my brothers.
2. Decorating my space: We didn't do much decorating type stuff because we were always in rentals until I was older and then I got to pick the paint color and carpet. My room was very blue! I loved it.
3. I love my current bedroom. For the last two years my bedroom was part of the living room. As nice as it was to be "in the middle of things" when I was very pregnant and very tired, I am so happy in my loft bedroom. It's big but not too big. I have room for my two babies, my clothes and dh's, a book shelf, a table for puzzles. I love being off the main floor, but still part of it.
4. I would change the fact that I have no where to "hide" to change. We need to get a room divider thingie like in the old movies. The floor could use at least some paint as it's just the OSB flooring stuff. DH wants to change the railing so it's nicer and more aesthetic. For me, that would be nice and I know it will come. I'm not in a hurry for that. I want a shelf, in an out of the way place, to display Harvey's things. My best friend had a special glass box made and I want a place to safely put those things out.
There are a few more questions.
We like the stuff that is in our room. We like the furniture. We like the clothes. We might need to rethink the clothes storage. There isn't a tonne of things from our past and one person does not dominate the room. We don't have a tv in our room or any office items, just our books and they are up there to keep from little hands!
Making a Plan:
organize clothing
organize bookshelf
purge more clothes as needed
deep clean - floors, windows, walls, ceiling
fix the heating issue - kinda fixed but needs to eventually be re-thought and installed
paint - not going to happen this month. We're focused on getting structures built.
shelf - that might happen this month. I'll be keeping an eye out for something at the second hand store.
railing - DH's department. He'll get there.
a chair, probably a rocker - Keeping an eye out for it.
Let's Talk About Clothes
DH has too many. (In my opinion). I have lots that don't fit. I find this very frustrating. I have maternity wear that is too big and some that I am very comfortable in. I have many pants that are too small because I haven't gotten back to my pre-pregnancy weight (baby is only 3 months old). Those too small clothes are in a Rubbermaid Tub, under the table. Then I have the clothes that I currently wear. I'm loving them, embracing them (even the maternity pants). Dirty clothes are tossed over the railing and collected and tossed into the basement to be washed. We have no closet so all the clothes need to be stored inside something. DH has a pantry type shelf with doors. I have a dresser. Shoes are not an issue. Well, they are, but not in the graveyard sense that Leeds talks about. I only have 5 pair of footwear - croc-like, worn-out runners, dressy sandals, "fancy" rubber boots, and my huge winter boots. I need more footwear! I have a nice skirt I'd like to wear and nothing matches with it. I have my mom on the look out for clothes and shoes for me.
Wall dressings: We get artwork from our children for now. I will keep an eye out for something else too.
Well, that's a lot to think about! Can't wait to dive into next week's chapter.

Okay I didn't read all of this blog but I have a thot: I'd (personally) think that a half wall up in the loft would be all you need for privacy. Just so that no-one could see you from below even if they were on the stage.
A half wall would be all that would be needed. A wall as high as the railing is now would be tall enough. One reason we are considering a wall is because we don't want to lose the open feeling. We were thinking a lattice type thing instead. But . . . we'll see.
