30 Days of Recipes - Chocolate Sauce

Photobucket

Growing up my mom always made this awesome chocolate sauce for our pancakes. The extra sauce would then be used in milk and smoothies and on ice cream. I found my mom's recipe hard to follow because I never had the ingredients in the house. So I went on a search of AllRecipes.com to find one that was as good, but with ingredients I was more likely to keep in my house. Here's the recipe I found. My kids say it's "better than Grandma's". (Sorry, Mom.)

After reading some of the reviews at AllRecipes.com I did some of the changes suggested. I wrote those suggestions in PURPLE.

Chocolate Sauce - All Recipes

INGREDIENTS
  • 2/3 cup unsweetened cocoa
  • 1 2/3 cups white sugar
  • 1 1/4 cups water (Instead use: 1/2 cup corn syrup, 1/2 cup milk and 1/4 cup water)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
DIRECTIONS

In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine cocoa, sugar, (corn syrup, milk) and water. Bring to a boil and let boil 1 minute. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla.

I'm heart broken! (but I'll have to try the new recipe sometime.)

My mom (your grandma) made this syrup for our family for as long as I can remember. I think she got the recipe from Grandma Salmond. We use the smae recipe as yours (with milk, but not the syrup) no water at all.
