Books and Coffee

Welcome, Company Girls and other readers.  (Don't know what a Company Girl is?  You can read more about it here.) Today I am serving coffee, tea and one of my new favorite hot beverages - Russian (sometimes known as, Friendship) Tea.  Have a seat and a visit.

We are doing quite a bit of reading in our house these days, including listening to Robert Munsch books on CD.  We've been borrowing a lot of "kits" from the library - book and CD.  I "caught" CJ reading a Hansel and Gretel book.  She (CJ) always seems to have a book close by, no matter what she's doing.  Little W is loving one about dragons that has some flip up portions to it.

Here's what I've been actively reading:
  • new day, new you by Joyce Meyer - This is a daily devotional.  There is a short page to read each day.  I like it.  I'd misplaced it for almost a month and went on a hunt for it today.  I have it back in my possession.
  • the Quilter's daughter by Wanda E. Brunstetter - I needed a novel one day and came home from a friend's with two - this one and another that I haven't started yet by Lori Wick.  I am really enjoying living "through" this family; I always imagined myself living as the Amish (or groups similar) do.  I think they live a very simple and fascinating life.
  • One Year to an Organized Financial Life by Regina Leeds - I received this book as a review opportunity and am eating up the information provided.  A lot of what I am learning (US information) is very applicable to my life here in Canada.  I am simply leaving out the specifics and applying the principles to our life and laws.
  • Fascinating Womanhood by Helen Andelin - I am just a few pages into this book.  I purchased a copy after reading this .pdf (free to download online).  The .pdf file is a series of booklets originally printed in the 1920s for single women.  Someone has compiled them; the author's name has been lost over the years.  Helen Andelin based her book on this series.  I look forward to reading more of this book.
Two books sitting on my desk, waiting for me to get to them are: Finding Purpose Beyond Our Pain and The Magician's Book.

I hope you have a great weekend!  I am going to a wedding on Saturday and hoping to spend some time fixing some maternity shirts.  By fixing I mean modifying to fit me better.  I am getting a nice collection of items to wear!  Now mostly, I'm lacking in nice, comfortable footwear.  Gonna have to go shopping! (Secondhand stores are great.)

Striving to learn and live God's purposes,

I love books. I keep them by my bed, in my kitchen, in the bookshelf in my living room, in my bathroom... (sometimes I just go in there to read, because there's a lock on the door!) I sneak in my reading time wherever possible. :)

Joyce Meyer is one of my favorites. She's coming here in May and I'm planning to go with friends.

Good luck finding the right footwear...my favorite during pregnancy was always a comfy pair of Sketchers. I still wear them! (The sandals have lasted forever.)

Have a great weekend!

My son loved Robert Munsh books. There are so humorous. A perfect fit for a boy that wasn't a huge fan of reading to begin with. Our favorite was "Smelly Socks".

My kids used to listen to Robert Munsch in the van as I drove them here and there...they loved listening to the stories over and over. I must admit that I had my favourites too!

I love reading too, but feel like I never have time for it anymore (and I only have 2 children of which one is in school). My bathroom is my sanctuary for reading because, like Melissa said, it has a lock on the door.

I have a ton of books too, but I try to read just one at a time. i've put the Quilter's Daughter on my reding list - it sounds interesting! I read Fascinating Womahood about 4 years ago and I think I am going to reread it soon. I'd love to know what you think of it.
