Entitlement

This post could very well come back to bite me in the butt!  Maybe I don’t have any “right” to write this, but I’m frustrated!

Kids today have such a sense of entitlement.  They don’t help out around the house.  They have cell phones and cars and internet that is all paid for by their parents.  They don’t work, and if they do, their cheques are theirs to spend as they choose.  We are not teaching them how to manage money in the real world (and I said we, because so far I haven’t been teaching my children any great money skills either).

We need to start instituting some REAL LIFE in their lives!

Want a cell phone?  Work to pay for it.

Want internet? Pay for it.

Want to live rent free? Negotiate housework into the deal.  In the real world, they’d have to pay rent AND clean their own house!

Want clean clothes?!?!?  Learn to use the washer!

I mean, every family is different and each situation needs to be looked at on a case by case basis.  I mean that.  There is not a cookie-cutter solution.  Some young adults are working and living at home.  Some are going to a post secondary institution.  Some are single parents that can’t do it all on their own.  I get that.  Each family needs to work things so that it works for everyone.

I really want to see real life situations and consequences for young adults in our society!!!

But what do I know?  My kids are all under 10.

Striving to learn and live God's purposes,

LOVED this post!!! It's true! We need to train our kids up to know the value of hard work...not to learn how to coast and make others do the grunt work for us!
