Fair Days August 2011

What a wonderful day!

Today was day 2 of 3 of our community’s ag. fair.  We went.  The day started early.  DH left around 0630 this morning to fill the dunk tank.  The fire department members take turns being dunked.  3 balls for 5 dollars or 12 balls for 20 or something like that.  Patrons could request specific fire members.

I got the kids up around 0730.  I don’t usually have to wake them; usually there are a couple of them awake.  They wasted no time getting dressed and out the door; Matty was in the pack, Rayna was in the stroller and off we went for a free pancake breakfast.  None of my kids like breakfast sausage, but the plates were pre-assembled, so we wrapped up all the sausage and brought it home for Doc.  He was excited to get some of them.

The parade didn’t start until 1000 and we were done breakfast well before that so we went home to watch some cartoons.  While the kids did that I took the opportunity to sit on the deck with my coffee and Bible.  I had tried to read indoors at the table but the TV was distracting; I drank in the peace of the cool morning.  (It didn’t stay cool long though!)  I was reading in Romans, chapters 1 through 3.

Parade time arrived and we headed out, choosing a new spot from which to watch.  Usually we go to main street, but find that the candy thrown is not as plentiful.  The kids watch the parade to collect candy and to see the fire trucks.  The girls even turned down the opportunity to ride on a float so they could catch candy this year.  So we chose a spot closer to home, and closer to the beginning of the parade.  Only a handful of children joined us there.  After the parade, we went home again.  Matty needed a nap.

Everything fell into place today – perfect timing.  Matty woke and we grabbed lunch – free – at the grocery store.  None of my kids really at their hot dogs, but the pops were enjoyed.  We got to the arena and the line was short.  We paid and went right in.  Our first stop was the dunk tank, but we didn’t stay there long.  The kids wanted to ride!!

So we got in line for tickets.  At 3 tickets per ride, 40 tickets split 5 ways don’t go very far.  I bought another 20 tickets later in the afternoon.  That was enough for such a warm day.  The kids were done and I was done.  There were no complaints at the end of the 60 tickets!

I was thankful for the tents the fire department had set up.  I needed the shade, even though I’d remembered to wear my hat.  My shoulders are quite pink, but my face isn’t too bad.  So glad.

There was a petting zoo too – another free activity, after we paid to get into the fair grounds.  Some of the animals were: llama, calf, sheep, goats, fowl, guinea pigs, rabbit.  Wyatt loved it!

Cotton candy.  My little guys didn’t like it.  I wonder if it’s a texture thing.  The older girls enjoyed the stuff we bought though.

So we had a good day!  We are excited for next year; we have a plan.  Next year we want to get weekend passes for all of us.  I’m going to work with the girls to do the math to find out how much money we need.  We will collect all the recycling money and other change we find into a jar over the next 12 months.  I bet that by this time next year we will have enough funds to have even more fun!

Tomorrow (day 3) dh has to go back for the dunk tank again.  The main event this year is BMX performers.  I am sure Wyatt will love it, so J is going to take him and Marrissa (both free to enter the fair grounds due to their age) to see the main event.  I can’t wait to hear their reactions!!!  I hope they have a blast!!!

Striving to learn and live God's purposes,
