Is the other side really greener?

So the last couple of weeks I’ve been struggling with continuing to homeschool my children.  I love it, but it’s not easy.  And so I look at the public school option, just to give me a taste of that reality for a moment.  Is it really any better?  I don’t think it really is.

If I had the kids in public school I would:

  • need to make lunches for 3 kids 5 days a week.
  • need to have the kids in bed and sleeping early, in order to get up early to be at school on time.
  • need to supervise homework every (most) nights.
  • need to drive my kids to school and back every day, which means packing up the preschoolers and babies, which would mean waking them and getting all of them dressed as well.
  • not be able to run on my husband’s whacky work schedule and hours.
  • have to let someone else control what my children learn and when.
  • probably have to deal with bullying and other such issues.

And that’s just a few of the cons I can think of off the top of my head.  I would find these and other things as (or more) disruptive/stressful as the homeschooling cons.
