I did not receive a paper copy of this book, but the publisher is offering this eBook free on their website until September 15th. Just go to Sylvan Dell Publishing and you’ll find a link for Ready, Set . . . Wait! on the right hand side.
Ready, Set . . . Wait! is written by Patti R Zelch and illustrated by Connie McLennan.
About the book: Hurricane . . . just the word brings to mind the power of these natural disasters. Humans watch the news and know of impending arrival. We board up windows and gather supplies. We might huddle in our homes or go inland. Then we wait for the storm to arrive. But what do wild animals do? Do they know when a storm is coming? If so, how do they prepare? This book explains how nine animals sense, react, and prepare for a hurricane. Based on research or observations, the brief portraits are explained in simple, poetic language for children of all ages.
My review: We don’t have hurricanes where we live on the Canadian prairies. This is a good book. I had hoped for a little more in depth information, but that seems to be included in the teaching activities available on the website. I think this book would be best for preschoolers, maybe up to second grade. My older girls would be searching for more information.
Disclaimer: I listened to this eBook on the publisher’s website. All opinions are my own.
