Perogies are "the name most commonly used in English speaking areas to refer to a variety of
Slavic semicircular (or, in some cuisines, square) boiled
dumplings of
unleavened dough stuffed with varying ingredients. In English, the word
pierogi and its variants are pronounced with a stress on the letter "o"." from
WikipediaApparently there are dessert perogies, but we've only ever had potato based filling - potato and onion, potato and bacon, potato and cheese. We eat them with sour cream or ketchup. They are a cheap and filling meal.

Thanks! I guess I could have looked that up. They sound like a good meal. Potatoes are a great standby for filling meals when meat is scarce or unaffordable.
mmmmmm, we love perogies! boiled and then fried in butter and onions, then slathered with sour cream with grated cheese liberally sprinkled on top!!! sigh...definitely not our low fat meal...hehe
