Reviewing Our Homeschooling Year So Far

We learn year round, so this is just a check in.  In August I wrote this post about what I had planned for us to tackle through the winter.  So here's a review of what we did and didn't do.
  • ACSI MATH grade 1 and grade 2. We are still working on these workbooks at the rate of a couple of pages every couple of days.  K is now into the grade two book and C is puttering away at the first one.
  • Letter of the Week. Well, we'd planned to start with Gg and we did.  However, we only have made it to Ii.  Oh my!  But I found another one that I like better (check out this blog).  I think if I start now and prepare the lessons for the fall, then we can get through more of the letters.  I'll start again from Aa and have that as M and W's schoolwork.  K and C will be doing Tapestry of Grace.
  • Beestar.org. This did not happen for very long.  I think we made it to week three.  It just did not hold their attention.
  • BOB Books - My older girls are done with these, but I think M is getting close to being interested.  I plan to have the older girls (or myself) work with her on the first box in the next little while.
  • board games and puzzles. We pulled out the puzzles again!  We have been having fun with puzzles - espeically M and W.  The Family Game Night on Monday nights did not get restarted; we are talking about doing so again though.
  • Rosette Stone Spanish. We need to get back to this.  I couldn't get the mic / headset to work, but I didn't try really hard; I got frustrated with it.  I need to try again.  The kids and myself really enjoyed the system.
  • Dance turned into a whole year thing.  The girls are loving it!
  • Piano lessons by Mom didn't work out either.
  • Baking and cooking happened a lot!  The girls are loving being in the kitchen!
  • Canada, My Country. How To Teach Science, The Human Body. These didn't happen this year, but could happen in the next little while.  There is seeming to be more interest in "sit-down" work as their reading capabilities increase.
  • Draw, Write, Now. K loves these and often pulls them out just for fun.  These were put away for most of the year, but have been pulled out and are being used by both C and K.
  • The kids were not interested in doing the All About Me lapbook from Live & Learn Press.
  • When I went looking for the ACSI Math books, I saw that ACSI has a character studies course called Building A Life.  I bought it and we have enjoyed learning from it.  We need to get back to it.
  • Other things we did: choir, including a festival, occasionally helping with Meals on Wheels, journal writing, the Tapestry of Grace trial and lots of reading!
Over the summer we will continue with the ACSI Math, lots of reading, and probably Building A Life.  Come fall, with some preparation I plan to reintroduce this Letter of the Week and will have purchased Tapestry of Grace for the older girls.
