Book It On Friday

Here's some of the books we are reading this week:

My Books:

Every Storm (Contemporary Romance) This is a book that I'm reading for the SRT and I am enjoying reading it just before falling asleep each night.

New Day, New You: 366 Devotions for Enjoying Everyday Life  I am really enjoying the daily tidbits I get from this book.  I needed today's message.

One Year to an Organized Financial Life: From Your Bills to Your Bank Account, Your Home to Your Retirement, the Week-by-Week Guide to Achieving Financial Peace of Mind  I love this ongoing project.

The Kids' Books:

The Sweetest Spring (Step into Reading)

Say "Ahhh!": Dora Goes to the Doctor (Dora the Explorer)

Diego's Springtime Fiesta (Go, Diego, Go!)

Inside, Outside, Upside Down (Bright & Early Board Books(TM))

Butterfly Battle (The Magic School Bus Chapter Book #16)

Rain, Rain, Go Away (Backyardigans)

No Clean Clothes!

Mr. Noisy's Wild Safari (The Mr. Men Show)

Inspector Hopper (I Can Read Book 2)

It's a Good Thing There Are Insects (Rookie Read-About Science Series)

Sweet Success, a Story About Sharing (Disney Princess -The Princess Collection)

I'm A Caterpillar (level 1) (Hello Reader)

The kids seem to have a springtime bug.  And my second oldest, C, has a "thing" for butterflies.  I got a whole bunch of books for her specifically about butterflies.  She's not the only one reading them though.  That's a good thing.

We will be concentrating on math and reading through the spring and summer.  I am hoping that by the fall we can jump into Tapestry of Grace with both feet (all 3 of us).  Tapestry of Grace requires a lot of reading on the part of each student (and the teacher).  We need to have reading handled well before we start this program in the fall.  I can't wait!

On my list for this coming week is The Children's Year: Seasonal Crafts and Clothes (Festivals (Hawthorn Press))  There are some really cool crafts in this book.  I'm thinking about purchasing this book.

Spring Reading Thing 2009 Wrap Up Post

Well, wow! Spring went so fast, in the reading department. But so slow in the weather department. We seriously thought the warm weather would never hit us! But at last it has. As a wrap up for the Spring Reading Things 2009 I am going to answer the questions posted at Callipidder Days:

  • Did you finish reading all the books on your spring reading list? If not, why not?
No, I did not finish my list. I was over ambitious. I am a mom of 5 and busy busy busy! That's my excuse!
  • Did you stick to your original goals or did you change your list as you went along?
I changed my list as I went along, but ended up staying pretty close to my original list. (My original list is posted here. And an updated list here and here.) I mostly added to it, but didn't really read any of the additions.
  • What was your favorite book that you read this spring? Least favorite? Why?
My favorite book that I read (almost finished) is by George written by Wesley Stace. I am really really enjoying this novel. (I can't wait to be done so I can review it and move on to others!) I didn't have a least favorite.
  • Did you discover a new author or genre this spring? Did you love them? Not love them?
Wesley Stace is a new author to me and so is John Rosemond. I enjoyed both authors very much.
  • Did you learn something new because of Spring Reading Thing 2009 — something about reading, or yourself, or a topic you read about?
I learned that I don't take nearly enough time away from electronics to just sit and read! I need to curb my "addiction" to electronics because I really do enjoy reading. I need to get outside more, watch my kids play and read a good book. I've fallen into the trap of needing to be entertained by electronics. I'd like to get away from that again.
  • What was your favorite thing about the challenge?
My favorite thing about the challenge is the accountability! I had somewhere to report and posts that I had to make as part of the challenge. I read more than I have just prior to the challenge. It is fun to read with others. I would definitely join another such challenge!
  • The final list with my accomplishments.
  • by George - almost done.
  • Financial Peace Revisited - as part of a course, so still working on; should be done by the end of June.
  • One Year to an Organized Life - a year long project.
  • The Innocent Man (mp3) - just started, didn't get back to it.
  • Created To Be His Help Meet - I've read before but was re-reading. It's been put away again.
  • The Migraine Brain - Didn't open it!
  • Making Brothers and Sisters Best Friends - Didn't get to this one either.
  • Beautiful In God's Eyes - I've started this one a couple of times but didn't get to it this round.
  • The Magician's Book - This one is still on the list too.
  • Shepherding A Child's Heart - Nope, one day though.
  • The Shack - I was going to do this one on my mp3 player, but I didn't get to it.
  • Six Point Plan for Raising Happy Healthy Children - DONE!
  • The Homeschooling Book of Lists - skimmed this one; wasn't that interested in it; I have what I do that works for me and didn't need any new input.

Spring Reading Thing 2009 An Update

I'm reading. I'm not reading as much as I'd like, but more than I was! I am really enjoying by George. Instead of watching tv or being on the computer, I have been reading. I love reading. I'm so glad that I decided to take this challenge. I also started listening to The Innocent Man but Dave Ramsey radio podcasts took over that. I'm still making my way through One Year to an Organized Life as well. I'm thinking that my list was a little bit ambitious being that we are two thirds of the way through the challenge and I've only completed or started 4 of my 9 books and then added three more a third of the way through the challenge.

So to recap, I am currently reading or partly through:
  • by George
  • Financial Peace Revisited
  • One Year to an Organized Life
  • The Innocent Man (mp3)
  • Created To Be His Help Meet

The rest of the list:
  • The Migraine Brain
  • Making Brothers and Sisters Best Friends
  • Beautiful In God's Eyes
  • The Magician's Book
  • Shepherding A Child's Heart
  • The Shack
  • Six Point Plan for Raising Happy Healthy Children
  • The Homeschooling Book of Lists

Spring Reading Thing 2009 An Update

I posted here about my Spring Reading Thing list. Here's an update! (Not as good as I'd hoped.)

So far I completed listening to:

on mp3

I've started or am still working on (some of these were not on my original list):

by George by Wesley Stace; This is a story about a ventriloquist and his puppet. So far a very good read.

One Year To An Organized Life by Regina Leeds; This is my on-going project for the year. I am loving it. Check back here for almost weekly reports on my progress.

Financial Peace Revisited by Dave Ramsey; I am learning so much. I am reading this book as part of the Financial Peace University course we are taking with 9 other individuals from our church. Not only are Jason and I learning and applying great money principles but we are using these principles in other areas of our life as well. Very very good!

Created To Be His Help Meet by Debi Pearl; I re-read this book. I needed a refresher, so to speak. I'm enjoying it again.

And I've added to my list:

The Migraine Brain by Carolyn Bernstein; I borrowed this from a friend because I've been struggling with headaches.

So all in all, I haven't accomplished much reading or listening from my list. And I'm sad about that. I've even been trying to stay away from the computer a little, thinking I'd read more, but there seems to always be something to fill that space. I'm never bored! That being said, one principle we are applying to life is:

If you fail to plan, you plan to fail.

So I need to plan and execute those plans - from meals, to money, to family time, to reading, to "sit down" school for the kids.

Spring Reading Thing 2009

For directions on how to participate click on the button above or go here and here. This reading thing is hosted here at Callapidder Days. Here are the simple instructions (taken mostly from the Callapidder Days blog):

Here’s a brief recap of how to be a part of the Spring Reading Thing 2009:

  • Make a list of books you want to read (or finish reading) this spring. Your list can be as long or as short as you’d like. (Also, feel free to modify your list during the challenge if it’s not working for you.)
  • Write a blog post containing your list and submit it to Callapidder Days linked above.
  • Get reading! The challenge goes from today, March 20th, through June 20th.
  • Check out other participants’ lists and add to your own to-read-someday pile!
  • Write a post about your challenge experience in June, telling us all about whether you reached your goals and how the Spring Reading Thing went for you. Oh, and if you don’t finish your books, or if you change your list half-way through, or if you only read two books…it’s OKAY. This is a low-pressure challenge that should be fun. As long as you do some reading this spring (and enjoy it!), that’s good enough for me.

So without further ado, here is my list of books:

I plan to listen to this one on mp3

on mp3

on mp3

this one is on-going

Ok, that's the list so far. If I can get these done in the next few weeks that'll be great.

Nick Cernis, of Put Things Off and author of the ebook - Todoodlist, challenges us to read a book a week and he tells us how to accomplish that some what lofty goal (lofty for this mom of five) in this post. He's a great read - funny with a large vocabulary!

As I read through this list, I will be posting some reviews at Simply Sensational Divas Review.
