A Get-Away with the Divas

In my wildest dreams, I hardly even dare to dream that one day, I would ever go on a girls’ get-away.  But, if I ever did, this is one idea.

There are these women whom I only know online.  We have been friends for close to 3 years now.  Many of us speak to each other daily.  Others we hear from less often because life is so busy.  These ladies are my go-to people when life is overwhelming, or when life is so super exciting.  I speak with these ladies when I have an internet question or a health issue.  There are seven of us Divas.  Most of them have blogs and I will link to those so you can “meet” them too.

We have talked many times about a get-together.  I am the only Canadian and the others are in various states south of me, somewhere.  We’ve figured out who is most central and what we could do in that locale.  We’ve talked about booking a cruise too.  All dreaming of course.  Maybe one day.

So here’s a shout-out to / for my Divas!

Christi – Polka Spot Farm

Kim – Mom’s Paycheck

Stephanie – Four Gurlz and A Guy

Christy – Shake The Salt

Tammy – Pink Stinx

Cathy – doesn’t blog, even though we’ve tried to convince her to over and over and over again.

One day we will meet, maybe not all at the same time, but we need to meet.  I think.

Odd–last minute Meal

I usually like to work from a menu.  I use Google Calendar to plan my menus a couple of months at a time.  (I tried three months but it’s too long.)  However, since the beginning of the year I have really gotten away from planning my menus.  Part of the reason for this is because I have not been doing freezer meals.  When I have meals in my freezer we eat so much better.

Our “fall back” meal is spaghetti and sauce.  I do not like spaghetti and sauce, but I have realized the issue is the sauce.  We tend to buy what’s on sale or what is cheap.  One time a higher end brand was on sale and so we purchased a few jars.  I actually enjoyed spaghetti and sauce.

I would have to say that our more odd – last minute meal is:

fried eggs, toast, pork and beans

The Blog Dare

I have successfully blogged every day so far in 2011.  February was Status Message Month.  It was fun to post something quick each day, as a minimum.  It’s been a f un challenge.  I want to have a theme for March too, but I haven’t decided what that will be yet.  Maybe I’ll just wing it.

I started my list

I started a list of thanks.  I started a list naming the things God has given me.  I started a list of the little things that really are the BIG things in life.  I won’t always post.  I’m not going to keep a running list on my blog, but from time to time, I’ll post a few – sometimes here, sometimes on Digging Deeper.

  1. baby brother’s belly laugh
  2. gas in my bus
  3. Scrabble with Kathryn B.
  4. chubby baby fingers
  5. a boy with his dog

I’m on a hunt.  I’m on a mission.  The challenge is to find 1000 things, one thousand gifts.  Will you take the challenge?  Will you find 1000 little things that God has given you?  Will you slow down life enough to notice these gifts of the now?  Will you name them and be thankful for them?

Day Twenty-Five

SMS JOT

The baby loves wrappers – chip bags, chocolate bar wrappers.  They keep him busy for hours at a time.  Other than that – books, cords, puppy dog tails – these are the things that will get him creeping along the floor. He’s not very good at it yet, but he’s getting better every single day.

Day Twenty-Four

SMS JOT

“Is the height of my chara joy dependent on the depths of my eucharisteo thanks?”  I am reading One Thousand Gifts by Ann Voskamp.  I am beginning to see that I may seem thankful, but really I just say it; I don’t live it.  I want joy but if it is tied to thankfulness than I am found lacking.

Day Twenty-Three

Our men have a special balance that they have to keep and it is not an easy thing for them.  Work versus family.  Family time versus providing for that family.  I do not envy my dh's position. I am so thankful that he is able to find this balance or recognize when it is not there and he rectifies it.

Day Twenty-Two

SMS JOT

Feeling a little disjointed today.  Half done reno project.  Lack of sleep.  Clean laundry every where and dirty stuff too!  Finished a book last night waiting for my fire fighter hubby to get home.  Now to get the next in the series from the library!  Almost done the Uglies series by Scott Westerfeld.

Day Twenty-One

SMS JOT

Today is National Sticky Bun Day.  I plan to make sticky buns today (cinnamon buns).  I can’t wait.  Hopefully the store is open; need flour.  Actually I might need all the ingredients.  I didn’t plan this very well.  Shoot!

Day Twenty

SMS JOT

Satan, he wanted more.  More power, more glory.  Ultimately, in his essence, Satan is an ingrate.  And he sinks his venom into the heart of Eden.  Satan’s sin becomes the first sin of all humanity: the sin of ingratitude. Adam and Eve are, simply, painfully, ungrateful for what God gave. ~~Ann Voskamp, 1000 Gifts, Chapter 1

One of my favorite things: Gold Canyon Orchid Vanilla candles.  They smell heavenly! Might have to purchase some more!

Day Eighteen

SMS JOTWhat a blessing the small things can be!  I went to the store the other day to get water.  I pick up 2 – 5 gallon jugs a couple times a week.  Usually I care them out myself; even if someone offers to carry one, I usually decline.  I prefer to be balanced walking to my vehicle.  On this day though, the man in line ahead of me, offered to carry both jugs to my vehicle for me!  Made a little bit of brightness in a dreary day!

Day Seventeen

Even 15 minutes outdoors can change a person's perspective on the day.  You don't have to do a lot or even anything but walk around the yard.  These days my favorite thing to do is shovel off the deck; shoveling off the deck makes me think spring will come sooner; we have a non-snowy place to play outdoors!

Day Sixteen

** I fixed the link.** Sorry.

I try to start my days by eating a Frog.  How 'bout you?  What's your frog for the day?

Day Eleven

SMS JOT

I loved the beautiful weather we had in January.  My kids played outside for hours.  It was perfect for training the puppy and having a quiet house for blogging and for the baby's nap!  I wonder when we'll see more beautiful weather.  March?  April?  May??

Day Ten

SMS JOT

We do not have a will.  Do you?  I know that we need one but it always gets pushed to the side.  What brings your "no will state" to mind?  For me, it is attending funerals, having a friend of a friend die or be seriously hurt.  Does anyone know how to go about having a will done?

Jane Fonda is 74 years old!  She certainly doesn’t look it!  I wonder if L’Oreal is actually helping her??
