I asked my cousin to play and sing this song at my wedding in 2000. This song is a major part of my memory of that day.
Today our friends, M M and D L, are getting married! I am so excited! My hubby is part of the wedding party. It’s been a busy few days. I wish them all the happiness I can imagine. I pray that God blesses their marriage beyond their wildest imaginings!
When my two oldest were the only two we had, I used to sit with them until they both fell asleep. Very often I would sing this lullaby a million times (or so it felt). I don't take the time to sit with the littlest ones anymore. Maybe I should start again.
Thank you, Lord. Thank you for creating people who can write, who can sing, and who can play such wonderful music and bring me and others to an almost immediate state of worship!
We've had a good but rough year. We don't know why; we don't know the lesson we are supposed to learn. We don't know if we've got it yet! Things seem(ed) to be looking up. J has a job. We have a vehicle. The kids are learning lots. And then after a good day in town visiting friends, the motor overheated in my bus. I don't know what I would have done, if J hadn't been with us. We ended up having to call the tow truck. While we waited we were getting colder and colder.
However, we were prepared - we had warm clothes and a snack. We had gentlemen stop that were able to keep the traffic going around us. One truck was a work truck that had flashing lights!
And yet at the time, all I could think was, "GOD, WHY??? Why this? Why now? We are just getting on our feet! I thought it was our turn!" Well, once we got home and I got the kids settled and supper made, I got really thinking about the day.
We had a great day visiting with friends. J was with me and I didn't have to deal with it alone. We almost made it home. It could have been a worse issue than what it ended up being. The tow truck owner's wife came and picked up the kids and me! She brought us all home while J waited with the tow truck. We are so blessed with friends here that the situation was made less intense by their kindness.
I truly believe that God has the wheel of our lives and that my dh and I are following HIS will for our family. I believe that whatever comes our way - like me being without a vehicle again or this new baby that's growing in me - God is in control. I believe that He is giving us what He wants us to have. I believe that God is causing us to grow and to be more like His Son. I am excited about that! I am excited to be a better mom, a better wife, a better person. I am excited to see what God will continue to put on our plate. I am anxiously waiting to see what He has in store for me to continue to grow and to serve Him.
The incident this week with the bus was just one of those things that reminded me to continue to leave the wheel in HIS very very capable hands! Here's a song sung by Carrie Underwood.
I have always loved a cappella groups. I listened to an a cappella station on Live 365 until I was hearing the same songs over and over again. So this afternoon when I went looking for a song to post for Then Sings My Soul, I went looking for an a cappella group. Well, I found Vocal Union. Hearing these men's voices calms my spirit and my heart. I hope you will give it a listen. Enjoy the amazing amazing harmony. God is good to create such beauty for us to hear.
In Christ alone my hope is found He is my light, my strength, my song This Cornerstone, this solid ground Firm through the fiercest drought and storm What heights of love, what depths of peace When fears are stilled, when strivings cease My Comforter, my All in All Here in the love of Christ I stand
In Christ alone, who took on flesh Fullness of God in helpless babe This gift of love and righteousness Scorned by the ones He came to save 'Till on that cross as Jesus died The wrath of God was satisfied For every sin on Him was laid Here in the death of Christ I live
There in the ground His body lay Light of the world by darkness slain Then bursting forth in glorious Day Up from the grave He rose again And as He stands in victory Sin's curse has lost it's grip on me For I am His and He is mine Brought with the precious blood of Christ
No guilt in life, no fear in death This is the power of Christ in me From life's first cry to final breath Jesus commands my destiny No power of hell, no scheme of man Can ever pluck me from His hand 'Till He returns or calls me home Here in the power of Christ I'll stand
Got a call last night from an old friend’s wife Said I hate to bother you Johnny Ray fell off the wagon He’s been gone all afternoon I know my buddy so I drove to Skully’s And found him at the bar I say hey man, what’s going on He said I don’t know where to start
Sarah’s old car’s about to fall apart And the washer quit last week We had to put momma in the nursing home And the baby’s cutting teeth I didn’t get much work this week And I got bills to pay I said I know this ain’t what you wanna hear But it’s what I’m gonna say
(Chorus) Sounds like life to me it ain’t no fantasy It’s just a common case of everyday reality Man I know it’s tough but you gotta suck it up To hear you talk you’re caught up in some tragedy It sounds like life to me
Well his face turned red and he shook his head He said you don’t understand Three kids and a wife depend on me And I’m just one man To top it off I just found out That Sarah’s 2 months late I said hey bartender set us up a round We need to celebrate
(Chorus) Sounds like life to me plain old destiny Yeah the only thing for certain is uncertainty You gotta hold on tight just enjoy the ride Get used to all this unpredictability Sounds like life
Man I know its tough but you gotta suck it up To hear you talk you’re caught up in some tragedy Sounds like life to me Sounds like life

A friend of mine showed me this video early this week; I was having a tough time getting and staying motivated. I was having a bit of a rough day. This song was just what I needed for a pick-me-up.
You gotta love Fred Astaire. I remember there was a season in my mom's life when she would set the vcr to tape in the middle of the night when CBC (I think) would play the old old old black and white movies. I remember how very disappointed she was when the taping didn't happen just right and she'd miss a portion of the program. Then after school or on the weekends we would watch these movies. The boys weren't all that into it, but we were. Many of those movies had Fred Astaire in them!
I remember one particular movie that she never taped over and by the time I left home the tape was worn out from us watching it over and over. I just spent the last 20 minutes searching for it online. It is called Kitty and was made in 1945 starring Goddard as Kitty. I'd love to see that video again.
